  • In order to submit an NM medical marijuana application, you’ll need the following:

    • 18 years of age or older (minors will need to submit a birth certificate and documentation of legal guardianship)

After your provider starts the application, create an account on the New Mexico Medical Cannabis Program's Online Patient Portal. This portal allows you to complete your application, check its status, and access your electronic card upon approval.

  • ​​Yes, you can apply to have a caregiver.

    Individuals under 18 can qualify with parental consent and must have a designated and registered caregiver apply on their behalf.

  • Arizona, Arkansas, and Maine recognize NM MMJ, other states with some conditions:

    • Hawaii: Out-of-state MMJ patients can apply online for a temporary medical cannabis card, valid for 60 days, allowing access to Hawaii dispensaries.

    • Nevada: Recognizes out-of-state MMJ cards, permitting purchases from dispensaries. Adults aged 21+ can buy up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis.

    • Oklahoma: Offers 30-day temporary patient licenses to out-of-state MMJ cardholders upon application and approval.

    • Rhode Island: Accepts out-of-state MMJ cards, allowing qualified patients to purchase medical cannabis.

    • Washington, D.C.: Recognizes out-of-state MMJ cards from numerous states, enabling access to medical cannabis dispensaries

  • As of June 16, 2023, medical cannabis cards in New Mexico are valid for two years. Ensure you renew your card before it expires to maintain uninterrupted access.

  • Registered patients can purchase and possess up to 15 ounces (425 units) of medical cannabis over a 90-day period.
